Here is a story about my son, named Jim. Not too long ago he got an OWI, which means operating while intoxicated, or driving a car while being drunk.

We have always told our kids you have to drive defensive, meaning you have to look out for yourself, and the other person. If you always drive defensive, you should not have a thing to worry about. I keep telling him if everyone in this world that could drive, would drive defensive, there would never be an accident.

Well how he got a ticket was he ran a red light and hit another car. When you seen his car, I would say he was going pretty fast, but the officer said he was going the speed limit. His motor was definitely ruined, his headlights were smashed in, and his wind shield was busted. His father just shook his head and said yes his motor is shot. He told Jim if he wanted to fix up the car, he would need a new motor, new grill, and a new wind shield. Basically what he was saying was, your car needs a whole new front part.

Jim has worked on cars or been around cars since the day he was born. When he was able to read, he looked around for an instruction book on how to change a tire. He was sitting on the sidewalk one time, and I asked him what he was reading. He showed me it was an instruction book of how to change the oil in the car. For this child being 7 years old and he was reading an instruction book, all I could say, good job Jim.

Now he is older, and could care less about reading any kind of an instruction book, but he will have to read a couple of books on driving. When he went to court, he found out he will be taking some kind of a driving lessons course. He has no idea how much it will cost, or where he will have to take it at.

The judge even told him you have to learn to be a defensive driving when out on the road. Since you were not a defensive driver, you are now paying for it, and you have to take a driving lessons course all over again. Instead of reading an instruction book of how to make something you will be reading instructions on how to drive safe again.

It only took Jim 2 months to complete everything, and he could get his car and license back again. He was a happy kid again.
