Great Transport Views

I guess I've investigated all the driving schools leeds has to offer. When I was in school, I really wanted to learn to drive, so I looked around a lot, and comparison shopped to see which one would be the best for me.

Now that I'm older and have finally passed my driving test, I wish I could find another kind of "how-to-drive" school. Not one to teach me how to drive my car, but one to teach me how to maintain and care for the motor. It seems to me that there's a lot of attention paid to how to drive your new car, but not too much attention paid to how to take care of the motor. And if the motor fails, you will be buying a new car for sure.

It's even hard to find good instructions on how to change the oil in your car, much less finding a school to teach you basic auto maintenance and repair. I think it would be great if I could just learn how to identify the basic parts of my car: the battery, the carburetor (I don't know if a new car would even have a carburetor anymore -- see what I mean?), the air filter, the spark plugs. One of my friends recently bought a new van, and I couldn't even locate the ENGINE in that because it had some sort of weird covering over it.

I think it would be really helpful if, when my car started making funny sounds, I knew what they meant. If I could diagnose my own auto problems before I had to take my car in for service, I could estimate the charges before I had a mechanic look at it. If I could change my own belts and hoses, I would save a lot of money on maintenance. And I would change my oil and oil filter faithfully every 3000 miles.

I don't want to become a mechanic (though it might be a fun job, working on other people's cars all day and able to fix your own if something goes wrong), but I would like to have a basic course in auto maintenance and repair. I would enroll in the very first class.
